McLean & Schultz: Structural Engineering & Architecture

The Vincent Thomas Bridge, part of State Route 47, crosses the Los Angeles Harbor linking San Pedro with Terminal Island. It is the fourth longest suspension bridge in California and the bridge with the 76th longest span in the world. The Vincent Thomas Bridge suspended span superstructure bridge is approximately 1,500 feet long and 53 feet wide, and carries a four-lane roadway. The two main towers, made up of welded box sections, are 335 feet high. McLean & Schultz was part of the Moffat & Nichol Design Team in the PS&E phase of the seismic retrofit design of this bridge.
