McLean & Schultz: Structural Engineering & Architecture

This grade separation structure, located in the vicinity of Old Towne Placentia, between Crowther Ave. and Santa Fe Street, supports three BNSF Railway tracks. In order to meet the aesthetic goals of local residents and the City of Placentia, McLean & Schultz gave extensive consideration to this bridge type that would allow maximum unrestricted visual distance for Melrose Street. To increase the overall openness of the structure, the substructure was designed with battered abutment walls. Curved precast concrete fascias reduced the prominence of the superstructure in profile. A concrete form liner for a rock-ribbed pattern concrete fascia at the abutments and wing walls was specified.
